We met as a small group quarterly, and I would bring topics for them to brainstorm on.

As a one-person comms team, it was helpful for me to have new ideas from other experts. I think the board members also appreciated this setup because there wasn’t any reporting to listen to or assignments for them to do. They just showed up and got to share their ideas and expertise. Some of our success may have been the personalities involved in that they never required that we took their ideas, but it worked great for us!
